VGP - China’s announcement of launching a live-fire drill in Viet Nam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago seriously violates Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the archipelago, threatening peace and stability in the region and the East Sea.

Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang made that statement on September 5, adding that Viet Nam strongly protests China’s action and strictly demands the country respect Viet Nam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa Archipelago, not repeat the similar action, and not affect peace and stability in the region and the East Sea.

Viet Nam once again asserts its resolution to protect its sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests in the East Sea through peaceful measures in line with international law, including the United Nations Charter and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, she affirmed.
