VN states position on Tribunal's ruling issuance

VGP – Viet Nam has welcomed the issuance of the final ruling by the Arbitral Tribunal on July 12, Foreign Ministry’s Spokeperson Le Hai Binh stated the country’s response to the decision.

July 12, 2016 7:20 PM GMT+7

The Sokpesman said Viet Nam will issue a statement on the ruling’s content of the tribunal which was established pursuant to Annex VII of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea at request of the Philippines.

Viet Nam once again reiterated its consistent position on this lawsuit as it was fully shown in the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s Declaration on December 5, 2014, which was sent to the Arbitral Tribunal, Binh said.

In that spirit, Viet Nam strongly advocates the settlement of disputes in the East Sea via peaceful measures, including diplomatic and legal processes without using or threatening to use force, as in accordance with regulations of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The country also strongly supports the maintenance of peace and stability in the region, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and respect of the law-abiding principle in sea and oceans, he said.

On this occasion, Viet Nam reaffirmed its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes, the sovereignty over internal waters and territorial waters, the sovereign right and jurisdiction over Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in line with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Viet Nam also upholds all of its legitimate rights and interests regarding the geographical structures belonging to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes./.
