By the end of the Summit, ASEAN leaders will approve a joint statement on economic recovery and sustainable development and another statement on climate change.

The Chair of ASEAN will also issue a declaration which reviews results of the 16th Summit.

Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, as the Chairman of the event, will preside over a press conference on April 9.

On the threshold of the Summit, ASEAN leaders will meet with representatives for the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Especially, the 16th ASEAN Summit also welcomes the participation of ministers and senior officials.

At a press briefing held on March 30, Vietnamese Deputy FM Đào Việt Trung stated that all preparations for the Summit have been completed.

Regarding to the statement on economic recovery, FM Assistant Phạm Quang Vinh said that ASEAN would enhance its macro-economic linkages for sustainable development and join hands with G20 in dealing with consequences of the global financial crisis.

ASEAN leaders will discuss how to set up national and regional action plans on climate change, said Mr. Vinh, adding that the bloc’s statement on the issue will raise a regional voice for the designing of a global document at the UN Climate Change Conference scheduled for late 2010 in Mexico.
