VN signs bilateral tourism cooperation agreements with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar

VGP – Viet Nam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar discussed solutions to luring tourists to their region and integrating their tourism industry as they met in Ho Chi Minh City on September 9.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh said via bilateral cooperation, the countries will help promote the “Five countries-one destination” brand of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), to which they are members.

The five countries are members of a political, economic, and cultural bloc known as ACMECS and have agreed to turn the region into an attractive destination for global vacationers under a campaign called “Five Countries, One Destination.”

The ACMECS targets common and bilateral economic cooperation to promote the advantages of the region and member countries while narrowing the development gap.

During working sessions, the sides also agreed to set up inter-nation tours and look towards a common visa policy, among others.

The pacts focus on facilitating travelling, regularly exchanging experience and policy on tourism, training manpower, organising international tourism events and setting up joint working groups in tourism promotion.

In 2014, Viet  Nam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar collectively welcomed 19.6 million international tourists, up 11.4% from 2013. The total tourist arrivals of the ACMECS countries in last year were 44 million.

Laos, Cambodia and Viet Nam have indeed taken action to facilitate transnational travel.
