VN shows its active role in dealing with environmental issues

VGP – In October, Việt Nam will host a score of environment conferences, including the 7th ASEAN + 3 Ministerial Conference, 4th Conference of the Parties of the ASEAN Agreement on Haze Pollution (COP-Haze), 11th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment, East Asia Business Forum on Environment Protection and Sustainable Growth, and the 1st East Asia Environment Ministerial Conference.

The two first-time events are the East Asia Business Forum on Environment Protection and Sustainable Growth, and the 1st East Asia Environment Ministerial Conference. On the occasion, for the first time, ASEAN member nations will confer the 2008 ASEAN awards of sustainable environment city.

The 11th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment will review the outcomes of cooperation among ASEAN members in the areas of climate change, nature and biodiversity preservation, management of water sources, sea and coastal management, rural environment, and environment education.

The ASEAN 3 Ministerial Conference will assess the cooperation between ASEAN and China, Republic of Korea and Japan in the same field.

On the other hand, the COP-Haze will discuss and review the ASEAN’s cooperation in supervising and controlling forest fire.

Specifically, the 1st East Asia Environment Ministerial Conference is expected to issue a declaration concretizing the Joint Declaration of the East Asia Summit held in Singapore in September 2007. The new document will focus on prioritized activities among East Asia countries in terms of climate change and environment protection, information and experience sharing, technical assistance in building and developing sustainable environment cities in East Asia.

Those events will take place on October 6-9.
