VN seeks FAO backing in poverty reduction

VGP – Việt Nam hopes to receive more support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in agriculture cooperation, food security, poverty reduction, response to climate change and environmental protection, said State President Trương Tấn Sang.

The Vietnamese Government chief made the point on March 14 in Hà Nội while receiving FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva.

The State leader attributed Vietnamese achievements in agriculture to the organization's help, and voiced the country's pledge for support to FAO's initiatives and activities in the future.

State President Sang treasured FAO for for selecting Việt Nam to host its 31st conference for Asia and the Pacific.

The Head of State praised the outcomes of FAO's South-South co-operation program and confirmed the country’s strong support for the program.

For his part, Mr. Da Silva expressed his pleasure at Việt Nam recent progress in agriculture, describing the country as a leading state in this field.

The FAO chief lauded Việt Nam’s contributions to global efforts in ensuring food security and eradicating poverty.

The Director-General hoped that the conference would forge a chance for regional countries to see with their own eyes Việt Nam’s successes in agriculture./.
