A meeting was held on March 20 to celebrate the World Water Day 2015 in the northern province of Bac Giang.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai highly valued the initiative of the UN to draw the attention of all the people in the world to know the role and importance of water as well as encouraging the implementation of policies to manage and exploit the water resources in an effective and sustainable fashion.

He asked to cooperate in exploiting effectively the water resources, reduce damage of natural calamity and environmental pollution to contribute to poverty reduction, bringing social equality, accelerating socio-economic development and achieving the millennium development goals.

World Bank Country Director in Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa highly valued efforts of country members, including Viet Nam in coping with climate change and meeting water demands for agriculture, industry and urban areas.

With the theme “Water and sustainable development”, the World Water Day calls for the community attention to the connection between sustainable development and water resources.
