VN resolutely takes strict measures to handle trade frauds

VGP – Viet Nam resolutely prevents and strictly deals with trade and origin frauds in the domestic market as well as in import-export activities, aiming to protect the legitimate interests of local businesses and consumers, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said at the ministry’s regular monthly press conference in Ha Noi on August 8.

Answering reporters’ queries about Viet Nam’s measures to prevent foreign goods disguised as “made-in-Viet Nam” products for exports to the United States, Hang said that the Prime Minister has approved a project on strengthening State management over the prevention of trade remedies evasion and origin frauds.

Accordingly, the Government leader has directed relevant ministries and agencies to drastically and synchronously implement many measures to raise awareness and enhance State management over export-import activities and foreign investment, in addition to seriously observing legal regulations on trade remedies, origins, customs and the prevention of trade remedies evasion, and investigating and strictly punishing violation cases.

The spokesperson said Viet Nam’s relevant ministries and agencies have been seriously executing the project, stating that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is urgently building specific regulations and criteria, which will serve as the foundation to identify made-in-Viet Nam commodities.

Customs agencies have coordinated with other authorized agencies to step up inspection and supervision over import-export activities, especially for goods prone to trade frauds, while investigating and strictly handle frauds, Hang said.

She added that Viet Nam’s authorized agencies have strengthened cooperation and information exchange with those of foreign countries in order to prevent, detect and promptly handle trade frauds in import-export activities.
