VN resolutely protests against China’s naming of features in East Sea

VGP – Viet Nam protests against all acts that are detrimental to Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands and the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands and its sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the nation’s waters.

Deputy Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ngo Toan Thang

Deputy Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ngo Toan Thang made the above statement at a press briefing on Thursday as he was asked about China’s so-called naming of 80 geographical features in the East Sea.

Such acts are null and void and not recognized, the Deputy Spokesperson said.

Viet Nam has repeatedly said it has ample historical evidence and legal basis to assert its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa Islands and Truong Sa Islands in accordance with international law as well as its sovereign rights and jurisdiction over its waters as defined by the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)./.
