Under a new decision signed recently, the PM assigned the Ministry of Finance to afford the purchase by using the Reserve State Budget 2010 and the Aid Budget Estimation 2009.

Until the moment, at least 100,000 tons of rice have been added to the country’s rice reserve stock.

The Vietnamese Food Association (VFA) reported that its 30 member enterprises have already bought in 1 million tons of rice, aiming at stabilizing market price for the Winter-spring crop in the Mekong Delta. By March 19, most of VFA enterprises purchased at least 790,000 tons of rice.

Meanwhile, the country’s rice export turnover of this month recorded by VFA stands at 380,798 tons, equivalent to nearly US $179 million.  The figures for the period from January 1 to April 22 was nearly 1.7 million tons or US $786 million.
