The patient, Trần Thị Kim L, came to the Military Hospital No. 87 of the province on July 30. A day later, she was tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus by the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute.

She was later taken to the Khánh Hòa General Hospital because of her deteriorating condition. But on August 3, she died of inflammation in lungs and respiratory disorders.

The General Hospital has conducted tests to check whether she was infected with H5N1 virus as well. The testing result has not been provided, so that there is no conclusion on the official cause of the death.

The woman’s son, Trần Ngọc H, aged 9, is also tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus and being treated at the General Hospital since August 1.

Up to now, Khánh Hòa Province has confirmed 23 infected cases of A/H1N1, including a six-month-old baby.

Việt Nam has so far reported 995 A/H1N1 cases since the first patient was confirmed on May 30.
