VN repatriates disadvantaged Overseas Vietnamese in UK

VGP – The Vietnamese functional agencies have joined hands with other relevant agencies to bring British citizens home and help a number of Vietnamese citizens in the UK return to Viet Nam, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

April 15, 2020 10:06 AM GMT+7

In the spirit of facilitating foreign diplomatic agencies to launch citizen protection works, on April 13, Vietnamese functional agencies coordinated with the UK Embassy in Ha Noi to take 100 British citizens who stranded in Viet Nam and Cambodia due to the COVID-19 pandemic home on a Viet Nam Airlines flight.

One COVID-19 patient among these British citizens was successfully treated in Viet Nam.

The flight also transported medical masks as the gift of the Vietnamese Government and people for the UK’s Government and people.

On the return flight, some Vietnamese citizens in the UK will be taken home, including students under 18, the elderly and disadvantaged people. The flight will land at Van Don International Airport on April 15.

These Vietnamese citizens will be sent for medical quarantine as regulated.

Viet Nam Airlines launched two special flights from Viet Nam to Germany on April 6 and 8 to take nearly 600 European citizens home.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have plans to repatriate Vietnamese who are being stranded at foreign airports.

The ministry needs to take effective measures to protect citizens abroad during the pandemic time and encourage them not to return home, except for the elderly, sick people and children under 18.
