Ambassador Lê Lương Minh made the statement on Wednesday in New York at a UNSC meeting themed "UN peacekeeping missions."

Relevant initiatives and proposals must be publicized and discussed in conformity with basic targets and principles stipulated in the UN's Charter and recognized by the international community, said the Vietnamese diplomat.

Those principles state that the deployment of peacekeeping troops must be approved by the host country in respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference into internal affairs.

The Ambassador said that troop-contributing countries, UN police, member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, and developing countries should be encouraged to engage in policy and decision making mechanisms and process.

Việt Nam's representative suggested the UN make use of comparative advances of regional organizations.

Ambassador Lê Lương Minh also stressed the necessity to address deep roots of all conflicts on the basis of strengthening national reconciliation, developing human resources, encouraging dialogues and conducting peaceful solutions.

Việt Nam stands for the UN to step up preventive diplomacy, act as a mediator, and endorse peace-making solutions in order to settle prolonged conflicts, stated the Ambassador./.
