VN promotes status at IPU-141 Assembly

VGP – Viet Nam partook in the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in in an effort to raise her national status as an active and positive member of the IPU in resolving regional and global challenges.

The IPU-141 was opened on early October 14 in Belgrade, Serbia under the theme “Strengthening international law: Parliamentary roles and mechanisms, and the contribution of regional cooperation.”

The event attracted over 1,700 parliamentarians from 50 parliaments and representatives of international organizations. 

Vietnamese National Assembly Permanent Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the IPU-141 and is expected to deliver a speech at the plenary session on the first day.  

The Vice Chairwoman is scheduled to have bilateral meetings on the sideline of the event to discuss ways to boost cooperation between Viet Nam’s National Assembly and IPU member parliaments. 

The event will close on October 17.

Earlier, from October 10-12, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Affairs Nguyen Van Giau, Vice President of the IPU, attended the 282th session of the IPU Executive Committee./.
