Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made the statement during a meeting with Laos’ Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong on May 19 on the sidelines of the ongoing Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APW2) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

He congratulated Laos’ national development and external affairs achievements, particularly its recently acclaimed most attractive tourist destination in the world, pledging to work together with other Vietnamese leaders to nourish the special bilateral ties.

The Viet Nam – Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year held in 2012 and in 2013 benefits both countries’ efforts to further their traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, said Nhan.

Expressing thanks to the Lao Government for facilitating Vietnamese corporations and businesses’ projects in Laos, he emphasized that the Vietnamese Government will closely monitor and urge them to realize agreements signed by the two Governments, ministries, industries, localities and businesses of the two countries.

Nhan conveyed PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s invitation to visit Viet Nam at an appropriate time to PM Thammavong.

PM Thammavong noted that effective cooperation mechanisms between the two Governments have contributed to making the special Viet Nam – Laos relationship flourish.

He spoke highly of the investment efficiency of Vietnamese businesses in Laos and hoped that they will complete effectively underway projects, especially the key, large-scale ones with close association to Laos’ socio-economic development plan.

The Lao leader also hoped that Viet Nam’s economic and investment cooperation models will also focus on social welfare in Laos, in particular the difficulty-ridden provinces.

Earlier, Deputy PM Nhan and his entourage met with representatives of the Vietnamese community living and studying in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Today, he is attending the APW2’s plenary session, where he will deliver an important speech.
