PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc visits pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca during his trip to the northern European country

The Vietnamese leader stressed the point while visiting the leading Swedish pharmaceutical company on May 27, as part of his ongoing official visit to Sweden.

He highly appreciated AstraZeneca’s successful business in Viet Nam as well as its plan to invest US$220 million in the country, which, he said, will contribute to strengthening Viet Nam-Sweden ties.

Swedish Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation, Ibrahim Baylan, hailed the pharmaceutical industry as Sweden’s strength, while highlighting Viet Nam’s huge potential in the field.

Cooperation between AstraZeneca and Viet Nam will contribute to boosting pharmaceutical production cooperation between the two countries, he said, noting that AstraZeneca and other Swedish companies are eyeing to expand their business globally and wish to receive optimal support from the Vietnamese Government.

AstraZeneca marked its presence in Viet Nam in 1994 with the establishment of its representative office, named Astra.

The corporation has been accompanying the Vietnamese Government in the national strategy on prevention of non-communicable diseases during 2015-2025, and the Vietnam healthcare programme. It has invested tens of millions of US$ in R&D activities in the country as well as helped Vietnamese patients access advanced healthcare measures to cure cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and others.

In 2017, AstraZeneca cooperated with the Vietnamese Health Ministry’s Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department in the “For a healthy lung” program, announcing an investment package of US$1 million to improve the outpatient management quality for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Viet Nam.
