VN opens first Migrant Resource Center

VGP – The first Migrant Resource Center officially opened in Hanoi on May 29 with a festive ceremony jointly held by the Department of Overseas Labor and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

May 29, 2012 5:24 PM GMT+7

This demonstrates Vietnamese Government’s resolve to fill existing gaps, as well as IOM’s commitment to support the Government in better managing migration and facilitating orderly and safe migration for the benefit of all, said Head of the Department of Overseas Labor Nguyen Ngoc Quynh at the ceremony.

The project will also foster the exchange of good practices in providing comprehensive migrant support services between Viet Nam and other Asian countries.

“It is essential that migrant workers have access to reliable and accurate information and adequate support services to make their migration a success. The MRC is expected to provide support and client-oriented information services”, says Florian Forster, IOM’s Chief of Mission in Vietnam.

In March, 2011, IOM coordinated with the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry to repatriate more than 10,500 guest workers from Libya as political crisis gripped the country.
