VN implements citizen protection in Indonesia

VGP – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia to work with competent agencies to keep a close watch on Vietnamese citizens who may suffer from tsunami for necessary citizen protection.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia reported that a five-meter wall of water washed at least 20 metres inland across the stretch of Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java islands in Indonesia following a volcanic eruption in Anak Krakatau mountain at 9.30 pm local time on December 22.  

The Indonesia National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) reported that as of December 23, 42 people were founded death, 584 were injured and two others were reported missing. The death toll would go up due to disconnected communication. 

The embassy was requested to closely work with local competent agencies to update information and promptly conduct necessary protection measures if any Vietnamese was affected. The embassy should also update information on its portal.

No Vietnamese has been reported dead or missing in a volcano tsunami yet.
