With the theme “East Asia in the New Global Context”, the Deputy PM highlighted the close coordination between nations in East Asia to enhance connections between economies and reforms to establish an economy adaptable to a new context.

Viet Nam is doing its utmost to boost economic restructuring and growth model conversion, complete market economy mechanism, contribute to setting up the ASEAN Community and other regional cooperative mechanisms and actively negotiate a number of Free Traded Agreements.

East Asia has a number of opportunities for cooperation, but stability and development in the region face challenges caused by climate change, strategic competition, territorial disputes and security and safety of navigation and aviation, he stressed.

He highlighted that sea disputes must be solved by peaceful measures based on international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.
Viet Nam always cooperates with other nations and partners on the spirit of cooperation, honesty and mutual trust to consolidate the peaceful and sustainable environment in the region, the Deputy PM asserted.

Earlier, Deputy PM Phuc met with Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.  Guest and host reviewed the two nations’ Strategic Partnership relations, agreeing to cooperate in organizing activities to celebrate the 60thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, promote cooperation in investment, trade and deal with issues on sea.

At the meeting with Russian Deputy PM Akardy Dvokovic, the two sides consented to launch agreements reached during PM Medvedev’s visit to Viet Nam, especially in trade, energy, oil and gas.

WEF Executive Director Philipp Rosler and Deputy PM Phuc also discussed ways to promote Viet Nam in WEF activities and strengthen cooperation in enhancing national competitiveness.
In another dialogue, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization for Economic and Cooperation Development Mari Kiviniemi agreed with the Deputy PM to use resources from the OECD’s Southeast Asia Program for bilateral cooperative projects.
