VN has won individual battles, not whole fight against COVID-19, Deputy PM says

VGP – “We can be happy with the outcomes of COVID-19 prevention and control to date but we should not forget that we have only won individual battles, not the whole fight,” stressed Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

Dam made underlined the point at a meeting of the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on April 24.

Though the Government has eased social distancing rules following the positive outcomes, Dam encouraged citizens to refrain from going outdoor, wear masks, keep safe distance to each other and regularly wash hands as the pandemic risks remain somewhere around us.

As of 6 pm on Friday, Viet Nam has confirmed 270 COVID-19 infection cases, of whom 225 have been cleared of the virus and exited hospitals.

The current active cases include three serious patients who are getting better and 21 patients have tested negative for the virus at least one.

However, the pandemic still remains complicated as evidenced by growing number of new infection cases and fatalities daily around the world.

Due to the absence of vaccines and drugs, world’s experts have expressed concerns over the risks of COVID-19 reinfection and the second wave of COVID-19 importation in such countries like the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Singapore among others, Long said.

In Viet Nam, there have been cases with mixed testing outcomes, according to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.

Dr. Tran Dac Phu, senior adviser at the Public Health Emergency Operations Center under the Ministry of Health, said Viet Nam has drastically isolated and successfully handled recent COVID-19 clusters while social distancing rules introduced by the Government have helped minimize community transmission.

Phu quoted statistical data as saying that 40 percent of those having pathogens have been asymptomatic or exhibited mild symptoms, warning of the risk of new community-transmitted cases in the time to come./.
