The event was also joined by three deputy PMs of Cambodia, leaders of some ministries and sectors of Viet Nam and Cambodia, and residents living near the border between the two countries.

Construction of the Da model market began on January 16, 2018 on an area of nearly 20,000 square meters at the Thary Tboung Khmum special economic zone in Da Kandorl village, Da commune, Memot district, Tboung Khmum province, opposite to Chang Riec border gate in Tan Bien district of Viet Nam’s southern Tay Ninh province.

The market was built at total costs of approximately VND45 billion (US$1.94 million) from the non-refundable aid offered by the Government of Viet Nam to the Government of Cambodia.

Together with other cooperation works, the Da model border market clearly reflects the two countries’ desire to unceasingly strengthen their economic, trade and investment cooperation, towards making the field one of the important pillars in the sustainable and long-term cooperative relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Speaking at the event, Cambodian PM Hun Sen expressed his gratitude for Viet Nam’s impartial and pure assistance for Cambodia to overthrow the genocidal regime as well as Viet Nam's wholehearted support for Cambodia’s national reconstruction even when Viet Nam was facing difficulties due to embargo.

He affirmed that the Da model market will be an important venue for border trade, contributing to reducing poverty and improving the living standards of people in the border area, thus deepening the traditional relations and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Cambodia, for the benefit of the two countries’ peoples.

For his part, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung said Viet Nam and Cambodia have traditional friendly relations, solidarity and long-standing cooperation, with the two sides having maintained the regular exchange of high-level delegations.

In particular, the two countries worked together to successfully organize a conference to summarize the land border demarcation and marker planting work in the 2016-2019 period, as well as the signing of two legal documents recognizing their border demarcation and marker planting achievements thus far, he stated.

Two-way trade between the two countries is estimated to exceed US$5 billion in the period of 2019-2020. Viet Nam is currently one of the top five investors in Cambodia with 214 investment projects worth over US$3.3 billion. In addition, Viet Nam is implementing a number of important aid projects for the Cambodian side.
