Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc

The Government chief made the above statement as he was interviewed by Japanese press ahead of his attendance at the  G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan.

Phuc alo expects G20 countries to foster cooperation in high-quality infrastructure development, realization of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, climate change adaptation, prevention of plastic waste, and women’s role.

Through participation at the G20 Summit, Viet Nam expects to join hands with the global community to build a green planet and a world of peace and prosperity with no one left behind.

Regarding the Viet Nam-Japan extensive strategic partnership, PM Phuc said the bilateral ties have been advancing vigorously, substantially, and comprehensively, bringing practical benefits to both countries and making positive contributions to peace, stability, prosperity, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Both sides have maintained regular exchanges of visits and contacts, especially at high-level, which have contributed to strengthening their political trust.

The two countries have achieved real progress in security and defense cooperation. The Japanese side has assisted Viet Nam in overcoming the war consequences through aid to help clear unexploded bombs and mines and support dioxin victims, and in enhancing Viet Nam’s capacity to join the United Nations peace-keeping operations.

For economic aspect, Japan is one of the top trade, investment, and ODA partners. Particularly, Japan was the biggest foreign investor in Viet Nam in the two consecutive years of 2017 and 2018.

As the country is coordinator of the ASEAN-Japan relations for 2018-2021 period and will undertake the roles as non-permanent member of the United Nations and ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, Viet Nam has promoted its role to further foster cooperation between ASEAN and the Mekong Subregion with Japan and coordinated closely with Japan at regional and international forums, said PM Phuc./.
