VN gains trade surplus with US in Q1

VGP – Two-way trade turnover between Viet Nam and the US touched US$ 7.76 billion in Q1 representing a year-on-year increase 24.9%, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In the January-March period, Viet Nam shipped US$ 6.15 billion of goods to the US, up 25.6% against last year and imported commodities worth US$ 1.61 billion, up 22.4%.

The Southeast Asian country gained a trade surplus of around US$ 4.5 billion with the US.

Almost all exports saw a rise in which telephones and spare parts surged by six times in comparison with the same period last year.  

The US was the second largest trade partner of Viet Nam after China.

Last year, Viet Nam ran a record trade surplus of US$ 18.6 billion with the world’s largest economy./.
