VN follows developments in East China Sea

VGP - Viet Nam follows with deep concern the developments in the East China Sea as well as the worries of all engaged parties, the Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Spokesperson, Le Hai Binh, has stated.

December 06, 2013 7:19 AM GMT+7

Binh was replying to reporters’ questions on Viet Nam’s response to China’s announcement to establish an Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea during a regular press conference in Ha Noi on December 5.

“We hope all involved parties act with restraint and solve their differences through dialogues and peaceful measures in compliance with international law, ensuring security and safety on international air routes and contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region,” Binh said.

On how the ADIZ may affect Viet Nam’s international flights, Binh said Viet Nam’s authorised agencies have reported that international flights to and from Viet Nam crossing the East China Sea are operating normally.

Flight information has been sent to the authorities of relevant countries in accordance with international regulations and practices, he added.

Regarding China’s move to send its Liaoning aircraft carrier on a training mission in the East Sea and the possibility that China will establish an ADIZ in the East Sea, the deputy spokesperson underscored that all activities carried out by parties in the East Sea need to respect the national sovereignty, sovereignty right and jurisdiction of involved states.

The activities must abide by international law and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), thus contributing to peace and stability in the region, and not causing tensions and complicating the situation, Binh stressed.

Concerning the agreement reached between P5 1 and Iran on November 24 on Iran ’s nuclear issue, Binh said Viet Nam lauds the agreement and considers it a positive step for the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogues and negotiations.

“As the Chair of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Board of Governors for the 2013-2014 period, Viet Nam, together with the international community, will spare no effort to make sure the agreement will be implemented in a strict and full manner,” Binh emphasised.-VNA
