VN eyes stronger ties with UAE, appreciates Japan role in GMS cooperation

VGP – Viet Nam always expects to foster cooperative ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in various fields based on each side’s potential.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the above remarks at his reception for newly-appointed Ambassador to Viet Nam Obaid Saeed Bintaresh Al Dhaheri in Ha Noi on Friday.

The UAE diplomat hailed Viet Nam’s socio-economic development achievements, affirming his country’s high-ranking leaders wish to boost the cooperative relations with Viet Nam in all fields.

The UAE is currently the largest trade partner of Viet Nam in the Middle East and North Africa region, said the Ambassador.

He said  both countries should take more measures to improve the effectiveness of the bilateral trade ties.

The same day, PM Phuc met with President of the Japan-Mekong Parliamentary Friendship Association Ryu Shionoya who is on a working visit to Viet Nam.

PM Phuc spoke highly of the robust and practical advancement of the Viet Nam-Japan cooperation across fields. Especially the political trust between the two sides’ senior leaders has been increasingly consolidated.

He also appreciated the role played by Japan in accelerating cooperative activities within the Greater Sub-Mekong Region (GMS) mechanism.

For his part, Shionoya shared PM Phuc’s remarks on the progress of the bilateral ties, referring to a significant community of Japanese businesses (around 1,700) with investment spanning from infrastructure and energy to education in Viet Nam.

He affirmed Japan stands ready to bolster cooperation with the GMS countries for common prosperity, adding that Japan will host the Mekong-Japan Summit with an aim to advance sustainable development in the region and the world.

Shionoya also took the occasion to extend thanks to the Government and people of Viet Nam for their assistance for Japan to overcome the consequences of natural disaster recently.
