VN expects stronger trade, investment ties with Oman

VGP - PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged Viet Nam and Oman to take every measures to boost bilateral trade and investment ties during reception for Oman’s Commerce and Industry Minister Ali Masoud Ali Sunaidy on Friday.

The Government chief suggested both sides should sign necessary agreements to create a legal framework for bilateral cooperation and promote the role of the Viet Nam-Oman Joint Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation (JCETC).

Minister Ali Masoud Ali Sunaidy, who is on a visit to Viet Nam to co-chair the 3rd JCETC meeting and attended the Viet Nam-Oman Business Forum, said he led a business delegation to Viet Nam to seek opportunities in the Southeast Asian country. He expressed his hope Viet Nam will continue rice export to his country.

At the 3rd JCETC meeting held earlier the same day, Vietnamese Minister of Trade and Industry and his Oman’s counterpart briefed each other on socio-economic situation in each country.

The two ministers agreed on a number of measures to strengthen the bilateral partnership, including acceleration of talks for the soon signing of an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders.

The two countries pledged to enhance cooperation between their Chambers of Commerce and Industry to encourage both sides’ business communities to increase delegation exchanges as well as trade, investment promotion activities.

Last year, trade between Viet Nam and Oman rose 122.2% to US$ 116.7 million, up, of which Viet Nam’s exports reached US $40.9 million, mostly cellphones and spare parts, machines and equipment, automobile parts, and agricultural products./.
