VGP - The Vietnamese Embassy in Argentina in coordination with the chamber of importers of Argentina on December 5 organized a seminar with Argentina’s import businesses to promote trade between the two countries in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Dang Xuan Dung announced that Viet Nam has signed 12 free trade agreements and been negotiating four new others, hoping that Argentina will advocate Viet Nam to ink a trade deal with MERCOSUR (the Southern Common Market that gathers Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay).

He noted that the bilateral trade between Viet Nam and Argentina rose by 20% annually from 2012-2016.

President of the chamber of importers of Argentina Ruben Oscar Garcia affirmed determination of the Argentine government to open the local market and provide opportunities for domestic firms to expand trade with foreign partners.

The two-way trade reached US$2.3 billion and US$2.9 billion in 2015 and 2016, respectively. It is expected to gain US$3.5 billion this year, he said.

Viet Nam is now Argentina’s sixth largest trade partner with key export items including footwear, electronics, textile and garment and agricultural machines.
