VN discusses ways to realize family development strategy

The participants including representatives from relevant ministries, agencies and local-level Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism discussed orientation of communication on family lifestyle and home violence prevention until 2020, coordination between State agencies and mass organizations in the implementation of the Strategy.

They also commented on three draft projects on improving the quality of family relations and supporting the building of happy and sustainable families, on consolidating and strengthening the capacity of State employees, and on developing national database on families and home violence prevention.

The conference is part of the effort to make sure that the objectives and tasks defined in the Strategy are fully understood. It is also scheduled to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from October 25-26 this year.

Opening the conference, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh stressed the building of well-off, progressive and happy families is a key objective of the 2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy.

The Vietnamese Family Development Strategy was approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on May 29, 2012 with aim to continue the implementation of the Politburo’s Instruction No. 49/CT-TW dated February 21, 2005 on family development in the period of industrialization and modernization.

Under the strategy, by 2015, 80% or more of the total households nationwide will be classified as of cultural standards (The rate for disadvantaged areas is 70% or more). The figures will increase to 85% and 75%, respectively, by 2020.

The number of households that suffer domestic violence and social evils will be reduced by 10-15% annually. Households that are devoted to bringing up offspring without gender discrimination will reach 85% and 95% of the total households nationwide by 2015 and 2020.
