The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on August 19 organized a ceremony to review the Viet Nam-Germany Forestry Program in 2005-2014.

They examined sustainable management of natural forests; processing, trading and marketing of main forestry products; and policy consultations.

During the period, the program has supported the MTV Dak To Forestry JSC and Truong Son Forest Farm of the MTV Long Dai Forestry and Industry JSC in Kon Tum and Quang Binh provinces to get the FSC/FM/CoC of the Forest Stewardship Council.

Deputy Head of the Viet Nam Administration of Forestry Nguyen Ba Ngai said that the program has created  framework conditions of the forestry through improving policies and legal foundation, building new financial sources and coordinating international support.

Mr.Ngai stressed that the program has been implemented successfully due to the commitment and guidance of authorities such as the Viet Nam Administration of Forestry, the provincial People’s Committees, the provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as other relevant sectors.

Officials from the administration suggested that enterprises should maintain their activities after the program ends. Management models  would be expanded and transferred to potential forestry enterprises.

The program will be connected with a new program on preserving and sustainably using Vietnamese forest biodiversity, which is scheduled to be implemented in the fourth quarter of 2014.
