Vietnamese State President Nguyễn Minh Triết on April 9 in Hà Nội warmly welcomed ASEAN’s heads of delegations who have attended the 16th ASEAN Summit in Việt Nam.

ASEAN has become a regional organization with comprehensive structure and higher status on the international arena, said the Vietnamese State President.

On the basis of specific visions, goals, roadmap and the ASEAN Charter, which were approved by all member countries, it is time for the bloc to translate agreements into actions through strongest determination and greatest efforts, stated the Vietnamese Head of State.

President Triết suggested ASEAN members bring into play the Association’s special traditional values that are strengths and important factors for successful building of the ASEAN Community.

According to Mr. Triết, it is necessary for the member states to make strong political commitment to ASEAN integration; harmonize national and regional interests; uphold ASEAN’s role in addressing common threats to peace, security and development in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Region.

Assuming the ASEAN Chair in 2010, Việt Nam commits to fostering the bloc’s solidarity and integration; fruitfully fulfilling the ASEAN Charter and the ASEAN Community Building Roadmap; deepening ties with partners for the Association’s higher status on the international arena, stressed the Vietnamese President.

He said that the State, Government and people of Việt Nam pledge to spare no effort to complete the mission.
