VN commemorates Great Spring Victory

VGP - Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday organized an official ceremony to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam and the 126th anniversary of May Day.

April 30, 2012 6:38 PM GMT+7

At the event, Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, confirmed the value of the resistance war against the US aggressors, saying that Vietnam's victory was due to the effective and creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thoughts.

Chairman Quan recalled the role of the Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) Party branch during the Ho Chi Minh military campaign that toppled the Saigon puppet regime and said the city will build on the spirit of the April 30 Great Victory in its current process of development and defense.

The city has made tremendous progress over the past 37 years and now accounts for more than 20% of the national GDP, and one third of the State budget.

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung awarded several titles to collectives and individuals in the city to recognize their efforts in emulation movements.
