VN attends ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting in Singapore

VGP – The Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, participated in the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in Singapore on June 5.

June 06, 2018 10:07 AM GMT+7

The event focuses on ASEAN cooperation, the relations between ASEAN and its partners and reviewing preparations for the organization of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in August 2018.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dung highly praised the outcomes gained within ASEAN cooperation and between ASEAN and its partners, affirming that Viet Nam will continue close coordination with ASEAN nations in successfully launching priorities and tasks set for 2018, heading to establish a self-reliant and creative ASEAN.

Regarding the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the future Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC), the Vietnamese Deputy Minister expressed his concerns about recent developments in the East Sea, saying these violated the DOC and affected the progress of COC.

He called on ASEAN countries to enhance solidarity and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, consistently realizing the agreed principles, including demilitarization, and joining hands with China to implement the DOC and build a comprehensive COC in line with international laws.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Dung had bilateral meetings with deputy foreign ministers of the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand to discuss issues of mutual interests.
