Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Phạm Khôi Nguyên at  the 5th Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands,  France, May 2010
Being a coastal country and one of the nations affected most severely by climate change, Việt Nam is aware of the importance of sea and coastal areas in its sustainable development programs. Therefore, the Vietnamese Government and people are striving to mitigate negative impacts of climate change and the sea level rise, Minister Nguyên said at the conference.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Nguyên stated that Việt Nam desires to raise voice together with other coastal countries and those having seas and call for the international community to take urgent and specific actions to deal with climate change and sea level rise.

The country is also ready to learn experience in managing seas and islands as well as coping with climate change.
