At the meeting, the PM hailed the increasing role and status of India in the region and the world as well as contributions of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and Ms.  Sushma Swaraj to PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to India to attend the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit in January 2018.

The PM proposed the Indian Minister to maintain high political trust and enhance cooperation in all areas between the two sides and accelerate defense-security cooperation- a pillar in the bilateral relationship.

He asked to give priority to economic and trade cooperation, including exchanges to reduce trade defense activities and encourage India’s big corporations to invest in Viet Nam in fields of energy, renewable energy, oil and gas.

PM Phuc referred to potential in science, culture, tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, suggesting establishing suitable mechanisms.

The host required close coordination and mutual support at international and regional forums, asserting that Viet Nam backs India’s “Act East” policy and expecting India to advocate the central role of ASEAN in the regional architectures.

Ms. Sushma Swaraj informed her host of the outcomes of the 16th Meeting of the Viet Nam-India Joint Committee on Economic, Commercial, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation, which was co-chaired by her and Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on the same day.

India expects to strengthen the multifaceted relations with Viet Nam, especially in terms of economics, trade and investment and expand cooperation in other areas such as science, technology, security, defense as well as people-to-people exchanges, thus contributing to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world, she asserted.
