PM Phuc stressed the point at his separate meetings with WB Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde right after his participation in the G7 Outreach Meeting in Canada.

The Government chief suggested the WB to facilitate Viet Nam’s access to preferential credit resources for infrastructure development, climate change adaptation and poverty reduction.

He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to effective use of the International Development Association’s loans.

PM Phuc expects that the IMF will coordinate with Viet Nam in supervising and evaluating the country’s macro-economic situation and continue assisting the Government in macro-economic management and improvement of fiscal and monetary tools.

He also called on the Fund to enhance technical assistance for Viet Nam to better manage State budget.

Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva affirmed the WB will continue support for Viet Nam, particularly in improving business environment and developing renewable and clean energy.

Meanwhile, President Lagarde pledged that the IMF will strongly advocate and accompany Viet Nam in the reform process.

PM Phuc took the occasion to invite the leaders of the WB and the IMF to attend the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Viet Nam this September.

At his meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, PM Phuc highly valued and voiced support for efforts and contributions of the UN leader to enhancing the role of preventive diplomacy and addressing disputes through peaceful measures on the basis of the UN Charter and international law.

PM Phuc affirmed Viet Nam will continue active participation in the UN’s common activities, emphasizing the country’s support for UN reform towards more efficiency, transparency, and democratization.

He asked the Secretary-General to advocate Viet Nam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the tenure 2020-2021.

PM Phuc also extended invitation to the Secretary-General to the World Economic Forum on ASEAN, scheduled to take place in Viet Nam in September this year.

Mr. Guterres said he expects to see Viet Nam become an active member of the UN Security Council./.
