VN announces National Program on tackling climate change

VGP - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment yesterday made public the national program on tackling climate change. Việt Nam intends to spend US $1.2 million on realizing action plans at ministerial, sectoral and local levels to address climate change.

December 23, 2008 2:55 PM GMT+7

Drought and sea rising are common signs caused by climate change in Việt Nam

The program was formulated on the basis of sustainable growth, ensuring interdisciplinary and inter-regional features, gender equity, and poverty reduction.

Specifically, the program is supposed to evaluate the impacts of global climate change on Việt Nam’s fields, sectors and localities.

In addition, it figures out solutions to cope with climate change, strengthen scientific research, consolidate and enhance capacity, mechanisms and policies on tackling climate change.

The issue of climate change is compulsorily inserted into socio-economic development strategies and plans at sectoral and local levels.

The designing of a national program on climate change represents Việt Nam’s determination to join hands with the international community in addressing climate change.
