VN advocates regional economic connectivity, cooperation

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc will lead a high-ranking delegation to attend the second Belt and Road Forum (BRF) scheduled to take place in Beijing, China from April 25-27 at the invitation of Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.

April 24, 2019 2:24 PM GMT+7

With the theme of "Belt and Road Cooperation: Shaping a brighter shared future," the second BRF is expected to welcome more than 5,000 delegates from 90 international organizations and 190 nations.

Especially, the forum will attract the participation of Government chiefs and heads from 36 countries, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

The Belt and Road Forum Initiative (BRI) was proposed by President Xi Jinping for the first time during his visit to the Central Asia (September 2013) and Southeast Asia (October 2013).

Within the BRI, China figured out five key cooperation including policy connectivity, infrastructure connectivity, trade and investment connectivity, trade facilitation, financial-monetary connectivity and human connectivity.

The first BRF was organized in Beijing, China from May 14-15, 2017 with the participation of around 1,200 delegates from 100 countries and international organizations.

At present, as many as 150 nations and international organizations inked cooperative agreements related to the BRI.

Viet Nam applauds initiatives on promoting regional economic connectivity and cooperation, including the BRI. The realization of the BRI must ensure principles of peace, fairness and mutual benefits, respecting each other, in line with international laws and the United Nations Charters, making contributions to the joint development and prosperity of each country.

In May 2017, then State President Tran Dai Quang participated in the first BRF and delivered a crucial speech manifesting Viet Nam’s viewpoint on principles which define that cooperation needs to contribute to the international and regional peace, stability and prosperity.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the joint implementation of the BRI and Viet Nam's "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle" plan was signed in November 2017 on the occasion of President Xi Jinping’s State visit to Viet Nam.

In the context of fruitful and sustainable development in Viet Nam-China relationship, PM Phuc’s participation in the second BRF aims to boost cooperation for mutual benefits, serving for the national establishment and development.
