Addressing as the Vietnamese Representative, Ambassador Lê Lương Minh stressed: By voting for Resolution 1828, Việt Nam once again showed its support to the full deployment of UNAMID.

Speaking of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor’s warrant for Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir’s arrest, the Vietnamese diplomat stated that the UNSC should adopt a comprehensive approach to the conflict in Darfur, so as to maintain the balance between the political and peace progress, the effective deployment and operation of UNAMID as well as the national conciliation in Darfur in particular and in Sudan in general. He shared concerns of the AU, Arab League, Non-aligned Movement, the majority of the UN members and many UNSC members for negative impacts caused by the ICC Prosecutor’s warrant on the progress of peace. Concluding the last UNSC meeting in July 2008, Ambassador Minh expressed his gratitude to all UNSC members and the Secretariat for their cooperation and support to Việt Nam in completing its role as the UNSC President.
