VN advocates South-South Cooperation

VGP – Viet Nam has always advocated and attached importance to the South-South Cooperation and actively promoted cooperation with other developing countries within the bilateral frameworks, Greater Mekong Sub-region and ASEAN.

Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son made that statement at the plenary session of the second High-Level United Nations Conference on South – South Cooperation in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 20.

The nation has launched 10 projects and sent more than 300 professionals to nations in Africa for technology transfer, training, agricultural development, making contributions to poverty reduction and ensuring food security in Africa, he asserted. 

Viet Nam has shared experience in terms of renovation and international integration with other developing countries, especially reforming economy in line with active international integration, taking human as the center of development, ensuring economic growth in accordance with environmental protection, cultural development, social advance and fairness, poverty reduction, education and health, he added. 

The South-South Cooperation needs to strengthen solidarity, raise their voice and enhance the joint benefits of developing countries in global issues, especially realizing the Sustainable Development Goals  as well as urge the United Nations and other organizations to support South-South Cooperation for a peaceful and prosperous world.  

On the occasion, he also delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of “Dialogue with Asian countries” hosted by the Argentine Foreign Minister, met bilaterally with heads of the delegations from Norway, Armenia, Iceland, Maldives and Ghana, and the Director General of the UN Development Program.

The Vietnamese delegation actively joined discussion at the dialogue “Shaping the Future of Regional South-South Cooperation: Sharing the ASEAN Experiences and Nurturing Synergies across Regions”.
