VN advances to Asian cup final after another thrille

VGP – Viet Nam advanced to the the AFC U23 Championship final on Tuesday as the Southeast Asian side defeated Qatar 4-3 in a penalty shootout after an extraordinary 2-2 draw at the end of extra-time.

The stunning victory over Qatar opens up a new era for Viet Nam football

The team once again surprised Asian football fans and pundits, becoming the first Southeast Asian country to enter the final of the championship.

Park Hang-seo's side produced the stunning victory against Qatar despite going behind twice in the match.

Thousands of local fans are now on the streets to celebrate this stunning victory, which will usher a new era for Viet Nam football.

Right after match, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a congratulatory message to the whole team, in which he praised the Golden Stars’ courage and bravery to create historic win.

Viet Nam will face either the Republic of Korea or Uzbekistan in the final, who are set to play their semifinal on Tuesday evening.

In group stage, Viet Nam opened the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Korea and won 1-0 against Australia before ending up with a 0-0 draw against Syria, securing the second place with four points in the group D.

Viet Nam continued excellent form in the quarter-final fixture agianst Iraq with a 5-3 win on penalties on January 20 to progress to the tournment’s semi-final round./.
