National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (R) receives Chief Representative of the UNICEF in Viet Nam Rana Flowers in Ha Noi on June 25, 2019

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan made that statement while receiving Chief Representative of the UNICEF in Viet Nam Rana Flowers in Ha Noi on June 25.

At the meeting, she congratulated Rana Flowers on her appointment as the Chief Representative of the UNICEF in VietNam, expecting that she will make contributions to promoting the relationship between the UNICEF and Viet Nam more effectively.

Ngan highly spoke of the UNICEF’s support for Viet Nam for the goal of protecting the rights of children. Cooperative programs between Viet Nam and the UNICEF head to cover all children, especially the most vulnerable ones, ensuring that each one has fair opportunities to uphold its potential.

She expressed his hope that the cooperative ties between the UNICEF and Viet Nam will be enhanced in the time to come.

She was delighted at the effective cooperation between the UNICEF and the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA), particularly the NA Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children.

Viet Nam is concerned about the comprehensive development for children through health care programs, reduction of proportion of deaths among new-born babies and spending 20% of the State budget for education, she added.

Viet Nam was the first nation in Asia ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, said Rana Flowers, highlighting positive developments in realizing children’s rights in Viet Nam.

She expected that the Vietnamese NA Chairwoman will support the UNICEF in Viet Nam to coordinate with the Vietnamese NA to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and send a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in September this year.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed impacts of immigrants, climate change, and urbanization on children and other social work issues.
