VN, Thailand stress necessity of DOC conformity

The two leaders made the statement during their talks and the third Viet Nam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting held in Bangkok on July 23 as part of PM Dung’s official visit to Thailand at the invitation of his counterpart Prayut Chan-ocha.

Both PMs also emphasized the importance of building, maintaining and enhancing mutual trust; restraint and no use or threat of use of force; resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and boosting dialogues and consultations to reach a Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

They discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concerns and re-affirmed the shared viewpoints in the Chairman's Statement of the 26th ASEAN Summit in April and commitments on close cooperation to realize the target of establishing the ASEAN Community by the end of the year and beyond, as well as those on maintaining the bloc’s central and leading role in regional strategic matters.

The two leaders shared the concerns about recent developments in the East Sea which affected trust, peace, security and stability in the region while re-affirming the importance of maintaining peace, stability, as well as maritime and aviation safety and freedom in the East Sea.

The two sides informed each other of each country’s development situation, speaking highly of achievements of both countries.

PM Dung stated Viet Nam’s policy of attaching importance to maintaining and promoting the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnership while supporting Thailand’s role and contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

PM Chan-ocha wanted both countries to work closely with each other to make bilateral relations more comprehensive, effective and practical.

The two leaders recognized a rapid development in bilateral relations and agreed to devise major cooperation plans in the future in order to deepen and promote effectiveness of the Viet Nam-Thailand strategic partnership.

The Joint Cabinet Meeting took place in a friendly, open and mutual understanding spirit.

After the meeting, the two PMs witnessed a signing ceremony of cooperative documents, including a joint statement on the third Viet Nam-Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting, a memorandum on labor cooperation, an agreement on labor recruitment, two memorandums on cooperation between Long An province of Viet Nam and Trat province of Thailand and between Kon Tum province of Viet Nam and Ubon Ratchathani province of Thailand.
