At their talks held following a welcome ceremony, the two PMs announced each country’s socio-economic developments and applauded achievements the two nations have made in their cooperation in the fields of economics, trade and investment in the recent times.

As of August 2011, the two countries’ two-way trade turnover reached US $5.46 billion, an increase of 28% year-on-year. It was estimated to hit US $7 billion by the end of this year.

As of October 2011, Thailand invested 257 projects in Việt Nam, worth US $5.73 billion and ranked 10th among 93 countries and territories investing in Việt Nam.

The Vietnamese PM highly valued his counterpart’s visit and hoped that it would strengthen and promote the two nations’ multilateral cooperation.

In addition, PM Dũng suggested that the two nations accelerate cooperative activities in national defense, security, joint marine patrol and trans-national crime prevention.

In terms of economics, trade and investment, Việt Nam encourages Thai businesses to increase investment in its Central region, asserted PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. The two sides should make specific measures to push up cooperation in agriculture, especially rice production and high-quality rice seed, he added.

Regarding education-training, the PM proposed Thailand cooperate with Việt Nam in training human resources, especially post-graduate training and coordination in labor.

PM Yingluck Shinawatra thanked Việt Nam for assistance to Thailand when it was struggling against floods and reaffirmed her country’s consistent policies to Việt Nam.
