VN, Switzerland strengthen multi-field cooperation

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has suggested that Viet Nam and Switzerland further accelerate cooperation in all spheres, especially politics, foreign affairs, trade-investment, and education and training.

Deputy PM Hue made the remarks at a meeting with Johann Schneider Amman, the Swiss Minister of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, in Bern on September 13, as part of his working visit to Switzerland from September 12 to 15.

Johann Schneider Amman hailed Viet Nam as Switzerland’s partner in the ASEAN bloc with an increasingly important role and position in the Asia-Pacific region, whilst affirming that Switzerland wishes to enhance cooperative relations with the Southeast Asian country.

Aiming to develop bilateral economic cooperation in an effective and substantive fashion, both the host and the guest agreed to speed up the negotiation of the Free Trade Agreement between Viet Nam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA, including Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein).

The two sides welcomes the developments in ASEAN-Switzerland relations after a year of elevating the bilateral relationship to a sectoral dialogue partnership, including the establishment of the ASEAN Committee in Bern, whilst agreeing to promote Vietnam’s connecting role in ASEAN’s relations with Switzerland.

At a working session with Susanne Leutenegger Oberholzer, Head of the Economic Affairs and Taxation Committee of the Swiss National Council, on the same day, Deputy PM Hue expressed his thanks for the warm sentiments and precious support offered to Viet Nam by the Swiss people as a whole and Susanne Leutenegger Oberholzer in particular.

He also thanked the Swiss parliament, Government and people for continuously considering Viet Nam a priority partner in Switzerland’s development cooperation policies.

The Swiss parliament always pays attention to furthering ties with Viet Nam and will continue supporting and encouraging Swiss companies to invest in Viet Nam, the host affirmed.

She also agreed on the acceleration of the negotiation progress of the Free Trade Agreement between Viet Nam and EFTA, aiming to strengthen the efficiency of economic cooperation between Viet Nam and Switzerland.

Deputy PM Hue and Susanne Leutengger Oberholzer emphasized that parliamentary cooperation is one of the effective cooperation channels in Viet Nam-Switzerland relations. They agreed to facilitate cultural and arts exchange activities between the two countries’ peoples, and promote the connecting role of the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, contributing to boosting bilateral cooperation across various fields.
