The Vietnamese NA Chairwoman on April 6 started her official visit to Sweden at the invitation of Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Urban Ahlin.

At the talks between the two sides, Ms. Ngan congratulated Sweden on securing its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in the 2017-2018 phase, expressing her hope that Sweden will make active contributions to promoting peace, security, dispute prevention, and international law observance.

The same occasion, she proposed Sweden support Viet Nam to run for a seat in the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 period and the EU soon approve and sign the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) as well as recognize Viet Nam as a market economy, creating opportunities for the two businesses’ further investment and cooperation.

She suggested the Swedish Parliament share experience with the Vietnamese NA in law establishment and supervision of the State agencies.

Mr.  Urban Ahlin hailed the developments in the two nations’ relationship in terms of economics, trade, investment, transport and health.

The two sides expected to enhance the parliamentary cooperation to a higher level through activities to enhance supervision and realization of cooperative agreements inked by the two Governments and the strategic cooperative projects and advocate their Governments, localities, businesses and peoples to boost exchanges and relations for mutual benefits.

They supposed that the signing and approval of the EVFTA will bring benefits for all sides, contributing to raising the bilateral trade turnover.

Mr. Urban Ahlin affirmed advocacy of the EU's officially signing of the EVFTA.

The occasion, the two leaders discussed issues on gender equality, the role of women in society and experience in anti-corruption.

Speaker Urban Ahlin said Sweden is willing to share experience with Viet Nam in supervising State agencies, setting up smart cities, protecting the environment, reducing emissions and cooperating in research and development and education.
