VN, Russia look towards increased trade ties

VNGOVNet – Bilateral conferences between Vietnam and Russia were held on April 01-03 in Hanoi focusing on solutions to strengthen, develop and expand trade ties between the two countries when Vietnam became a full WTO member and Russia is promptly negotiating for its WTO accession.

The Vietnamese delegation headed Deputy Trade Minister Lương Văn Tự worked with the Russian delegation headed by Mr. M. Medvedkov, Head of Department of Trade Negotiations, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

The two sides thoroughly discussed to find out solutions for difficulties related to tariff and non-tariff barriers which are hindering Vietnamese businesses’ accessibility to the Russian market in the context that Vietnam is one of Russia’s super-importers.

The initial agreements basically met the desires of the two sides to promote bilateral economic and trade relations.

The two sides also pledged to deal with some unsolved technical issues as early as possible in order to come to a general agreement.

In the reception to the Russian delegation, Vietnamese Trade Minister Trương Đình Tuyển affirmed Vietnam’s support to Russia to join WTO. He said that Vietnam always wants to speed up economic and trade cooperation as a part of the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries in the new stage.
