VN, RoK sign MoU on COVID-19 response program

VGP – Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and his Korean counterpart Chung Eui Yong on June 23 witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on COVID-19 response program between the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The signing ceremony took place after the face-to-face talks between the two foreign ministers, during which they had in-depth discussion on the Viet Nam-RoK relationship and international issues of shared interest in a friendly and sincere atmosphere.

They expressed their delight at the crucial achievements in a wide range of aspects of the bilateral ties amid the COVID-19 pandemic, affirming both countries attach importance to further strengthening the Viet Nam-RoK strategic comprehensive partnership.

The pair agreed that the two foreign ministries should boost coordinate closely in fostering the two countries’ overall cooperation in line with the agreements reached by their senior leaders to bring the relationship to a higher level. 

They also agreed both countries will step up cooperation in COVID-19 fight and expand trade-investment linkages, development assistance, and citizen protection. 

Regarding international and regional issues, both sides pledged to continue close and effective cooperation at multi-lateral mechanisms such as the UN, ASEAN, Mekong, and ASEAN-RoK.

The ministers vowed to advocate the maintenance of peace and stability in the region, the settlement of disputes, including the East Sea disputes, through peaceful measures in line with international law, and continue making contributions to promote dialogues and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula. 

Bui suggested the RoK create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods, particularly farm produce to penetrate the Korean market, and back Viet Nam in accessing COVID-19 vaccine sources in order to soon revive the economy and resume people-to-people exchanges. 

Meanwhile, Chung, who is on a three-day official visit to Viet Nam, assured that the Korean Government treasures and expects to deepen the relations with Viet Nam as part of its New Southern Policy.

The RoK will be a close partner for Viet Nam in realizing its socio-economic development goals, said Chung./.
