VN, Pakistan eye closer ties

VNGOP – Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Phạm Gia Khiêm gave a cordial reception on November 05 in Hà Nội to Mr. Masood Khalid, the visiting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and special envoy of the Pakistani Prime Minister.

Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm made the emphasis that Việt Nam and Pakistan have recently made close cooperation in trade and investment. In 2006, the total two-way trade turnover reached nearly US $100 million. Many joint-ventures have been founded in investment, industry and agro-product processing sector.

The Deputy PM hoped that in the time to come, the two countries’ businesses should promote exchanges and cooperation in all fields commensurate to their potentialities and strengths.

Special Envoy Masood Khalid revealed that Pakistan is now speeding up its policy “Looking to the East” to strengthen cooperation with East and Southeast Asian countries. Thus, Pakistan expects Việt Nam to assist Pakistan become a full dialogue partner of ASEAN. The guest also asked the Vietnamese Government to provide more favorable conditions to Pakistani businesses operating in Việt Nam.
