VN, Myanmar agree to boost cooperative ties

The two leaders noted that the bilateral defense and security cooperation is progressing positively, and agreed that a security dialogue mechanism for deputy ministers of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Myanmar Ministry of Home Affairs will be established soon.

The two leaders also said that the two countries will expand cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, forestry, fishery, telecommunications, oil and gas, mining, transport, labor, culture, sports, and tourism. Their two-way trade is supposed to rise to US$ 500 million in 2015.

President Thein Sein affirmed that Myanmar will create favorable conditions for Viet Nam to invest in his country. Besides, he proposed Viet Nam share its experiences in economic development and renewal process.

The two leaders promised to work closely at multilateral forums. Viet Nam will help Myanmar successfully chair ASEAN in 2014, State President Truong Tan Sang said.
The two leaders also agreed on maintaining peace, stability, security, maritime safety and freedom in the East Sea and solving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Both sides welcomed ASEAN’s 6-point Principles on the East Sea and the Joint Statement of the ASEAN - China Summit celebrating the 10^th ratifying anniversary of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). They stressed the importance of strictly abiding with DOC and soon establishing the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

After their talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to exchange banking supervision information between the State Bank of Viet Nam and the Central Bank of Myanmar, and a cooperation agreement between the Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group and the Myanmar Ministry of Energy.
