VN, Laos promote friendly relations

VGP – At the invitation of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, PM of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith will lead a high-ranking delegation to attend the 42th meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee from January 2-4, 2020.

Via the organization of the meeting, the two Governments expected to reaffirm their foreign priorities including unceasingly developing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation; strengthening political trust; promoting the implementation of high-ranking agreements; and promoting ties in the coming time. 

Developing cooperative fields

Statistics showed that two-way trade turnover reached US$ 940 billion in the first ten months of 2019 and was estimated at US$ 1.1-1.2 billion for the whole year, representing a year-on-year growth of 12.6%, outstripping the preset goal of US$ 1 billion and 10% growth rate. 

So far, Vietnamese enterprises had 413 FDI projects in Laos with a total investment of US$ 4.22 billion, making Viet Nam the third largest investor in the neighboring country. 

Viet Nam provided VND 3.2 trillion of non-refundable aid for Laos in the 2016-2020 period. 

Viet Nam also provided 1,000 scholarships for overseas Lao students./.
